For the past two years, MBA students at Mason have organized many events and raised significant amount of money for the Williamsburg community. From repainting homes in neglected communities to teaching local elementary schools’ students, many Mason students have dedicated their time and effort to give back to the community.
More recently, second-year MBA Eric Spitzer organized a major bowling event for Big Brothers Big Sisters that brought together more than 60 students for an afternoon of fun! He also launched recently an auction for the Rita Welsh Adult Literacy Program in which faculties offer some of their time to Mason students for breakfast or a game of put-put.
Coming up is the Yorktown Victory Run on April 4th 2009, an 8-mile Grand Prix Event for the benefit of Kidz N’ Grief, an organization which offers support to children who have lost a loved one to death.
Drew Sutton and Meghan Thomas have organized the first Mason Golf Charity Tournament, which takes place on April 15, and on April 18, John Elliot will lead the first Mason MBA team for the Great Strides Walk for Cystic Fibrosis, an event to support the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. CF is a devastating genetic lung disease that affects tens of thousands of children and young adults in the United States.
Since I joined Mason, I have been really impressed by all the students taking some of their busy time between classes, projects and job search to keep giving to others. God knows it is highly needed, especially during these tough economic times.
